Whether there are any plans to improve the housing conditions of the residents of Powertown, Mossel Bay, if not, why not; if so, (a) what steps will be taken and (b) what is the time frame?
(a) The Mossel bay Municipality and my department are embarking on the relocation process for the Power Town Informal Area. 154 Sites have been serviced at Sonskynvallei and the construction of top structures will commence in the 2016/2017 Financial Year. The intention is to relocate all Power Town residents to this area. Once relocated, the current Power Town land will be rehabilitated as it is below the flood line and forms part of the Klein Brak River Estuary. It is therefore not possible to construct houses at the current location.
(b) The procurement process is underway for the construction of houses in Sonskynvallei to accommodate the Power Town residents. The project will be implemented and completed in the 2016/2017 financial year.
