With reference to the announcement by the Western Cape Government in March 2014 that his Department had identified potential lucrative properties in the central business district as investment opportunities;

[1](a) What are his Department’s intentions with the proposed disposal of the (i) Alfred Street complex, (ii) Helen Bowden Nurses’ Home, (iii) Top Yard and (b) what is the time frame for these disposals;

[2] whether public housing is an option that has been or is being considered; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body: 

6(1)(a)(i to iii) The DTPW has made no final decision regarding the properties listed.

6(1)(b) Falls away

6(2) The development of housing on a surplus site is always an option and, in the event of the Department deciding that a disposal of any of the listed properties is prudent, the legislated process for that disposal will be followed. This includes consultation with other user departments as specified in GIAMA, as well as a public consultation process as set out in the Western Cape Land Administration Act.
