Whether her Department has been involved in any sport events in the Mossel Bay municipal area during the past three years or whether they will be involved in the next year; if not, why not; if so, (a) where, (b) when did or will the events take place and (c) (i) what is the role and contribution of her Department and (ii) what is the financial value of such involvement?

Answer Body: 

Yes, the Department was involved in sport and recreation events in the Mossel Bay municipal area, namely :

  1. The Mossel Bay Sport Festival
  2. Mossel Bay Golden Games

1(a)     The Mossel Bay Sport Festival took place in the Mossel Bay municipal area.

1(b)   The event took place the past three years 2012, 2013 and 2014 in September month of each year.

1(c)   The department made a financial contribution towards Security and Medical Assistance and also offered technical support. The contributions were as follows:

2012 : R40 000

2013 : R40 000

2014 : R60 000

2(a)   The Department was also involved in the Mossel Bay Golden Games in 2014.

2(b)   The event took place on 21 May 2014 at Dalmeida Sport Grounds in Mossel Bay.

2(c)   The event was organised by the Western Cape Older Persons Forum in partnership with Department of Social Development, Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Mossel Bay Municipality, old age homes and senior citizens clubs.

(c)(i)            The Departments contribution was equipment that was used on the day and the presentation of the games in terms of officiating and coordinating.

For next year the department plan to be involved in the Mossel Bay sport festival again. We also intend to stay active with our Indigenous Games activities where we aim to start leagues; and also to stay involved with our senior citizens via the Golden Games programme.
