Question Body:

Whether the allocated 668 entry level police personnel, once trained, will be used to fill vacancies at police stations or will they be added to the current fixed establishment?

Answer Body:

The South African Police Service informed me as follows:

The 668 posts are additional to the fixed establishment and do not address current vacancies.

It must be noted that from the allocated 668 entry level Constable allocation for the 2013/2014 financial year a total of 549 subsequently complied with the prerequisite enlistment requirements. Prior to the contracting of these trainees, gaps were identified at police stations within the Western Cape based on, amongst others, operational priorities, communities from where they were recruited and vacancies. Once trained the trainees will undergo field training at those stations where they will be deployed in future. Once contracted such trainees form part of the staff establishment of the Western Cape Province.
