Answer Body:

10.      My department has established the following pre-emptive measures to

           mitigate and prevent land invasions:

  • Vacant properties as well as those which have been identified as potential properties for land invasions are monitored daily and afterhours by my department’s inspectorate;
  • The City of Cape Town’s Anti-Land Invasion Unit was contracted to assist my department in the prevention of possible land invasions; and
  • A court order was recently obtained to interdict possible land invaders in a number of areas within the Metro e.g. Weltevreden Valley, Philippi, Crossroads and Mitchells Plain in respect of my department’s land.
  • To assist municipalities predominantly outside the metro, my department has contracted the Red Ants to avert critical land invasions.
