  1. (a) How many old-age homes in Mitchells Plain are funded by his Department and (b) how are these old-age homes identified;

 

  1. whether there is currently a waiting list for people needing this service; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body: 

 

  1. (a)    Only one (1) residential Older Person’s facility is currently being funded in

         Mitchells Plain by the Department of Social Development.

(b)    Facilities need to register with the Department and will be assessed that their services do comply with the norms and standards as prescribed by the regulations of the Older persons Act no 13 of 2006. Facilities can at any time apply for funding by means of the prescribed application forms and if they comply with all of above criteria, funding could be considered. The Department also within a 3 year funding cycle, call for funding proposals from NGOS  via the media to apply for funding.

            (2)       There is a waiting list of 50 people by this specific residential facility.
