- Whether his Department hosted any imbizos in the 2016 calendar year; if so; (a) how many, (b) how many people participated in each event and (c) what was the total cost?
Answer Body:
(a) The Department hosted 38 events that can be considered as imbizos.
The events hosted were as follows:
- Sixteen Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) engagements (one per policing cluster) to determine the policing needs and priorities;
- Eight youth month events;
- Two woman’s month events; and
- Twelve 16 Days of Activism events.
- A total of 10 478 people attended the imbizos:
- 3 578 people attended the PNP events;
- 500 youth attended events for youth month;
- 1 000 women attended the woman’s month events; and
- Approximately 5 400 people attended the 16 Days of Activism events.
- The cost for each event are as follows:
- The PNP engagement amounted to R1 196 282.75. This included the cost of advertising the event, catering and venue, marketing materials, stationery, printing and publication and travel agent’s fees.
- The youth month events amounted to R65 300.00
- The woman’s month events amounted to R454 549.40
- The 16 Days of Activism events amounted to R390 416.00, which included catering, snack packs, marketing and hiring of stage and sound.
The total cost for these events amounted to R2 106 548.15.
