In relation to the LED lighting project in partnership with the University of Stellenbosch:
(1) (a) How much has been allocated to this project in the current financial year and (b) what is the total cost of the project;
(2) (a) what percentage progress has been made thus far in replacing the fluorescent lights with LED lights and (b) by when is the project expected to be completed;
(3) which schools have already replaced all their outdated lights with LEDs?
[1] [a] In the 2022/23 financial year no further funding is allocated to this specific project.
[b] The total project cost of the initiative, currently being implemented is R6 289 419.09
[2] [a] 25 schools were selected in the initial phase of the project in 2020, with a co-funding arrangement with Stellenbosch University.
[b] This initial phase was completed in 2020/21 with the majority of lights replaced with LEDs at each of the 25 schools.
The next phase is currently being implemented at another 25 schools funded by the WCED. 90% of the schools are completed in terms of replacing their lights with LEDs.
The project is expected to be complete by October 2022.
