  1. (a) What is the latest HIV and Aids statistics for Western Cape and (b) how does it compare with the rest of the country;

whether the Province is winning the fight against HIV and Aids; if not, what corrective and awareness measures are being taken by her Department; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body: 
  1. The Western Cape is the only province that has over achieved their target for the last two financial years, with the exception of Kwazulu-Natal that only achieved their target in the financial year 2016/2017.

  1. The province is over achieving on its Retention Care targets and we have successfully achieved and maintained a less than 2% PMTCT transmission rate.

 

 

The Department has introduced NIMART programme, ART Adherence clubs and universal Test and Treat. This allows for nurses to initiate patients on regimen 1 treatment at the PHC platform, while stable patients can be decanted into ART clubs in the community. 

 

The transmission rate for WC has always been below 2% for the past three years.
