How many people have been killed or injured in accidents in old-age homes in (i) 2009, (ii) 2010, (iii) 2011, (iv) 2012, (v) 2013, (vi) 2014, (vii) 2015, (viii) 2016 and (ix) to date in 2017 and (b) what is being done to curb these deaths?

Answer Body: 
  1. The Department is not aware of any killings happening in old age homes or was none reported. The Older Persons Act was implemented since 2011 and the manual elder abuse register indicated a total amount of 714 incidences of abuse since 2011. These abuse cases happened in the community as well as in old age homes.

Awareness and information sharing and prevention programmes with regards to elder abuse are being implemented. Incidents of alleged abuse are being investigated continuously by social workers and the necessary interventions are being applied.
