- How many (i) nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) and (ii) nonprofit organisations (NPOs) that are being funded by his Department are under administration, (b) how long have these organisations been under administration, and (c) what has his Department done to improve the operations of these organisations so that they are no longer under administration?
Answer Body:
- (i) (ii) A total of 10 affiliated branches of Child Welfare SA and 1 affiliated branch of Western Cape Association for the Physically Disabled were placed under administration by their own National or Provincial Boards. The Department therefore did not place these NGOs under administration but are aware thereof. There is no legislative mandate for the Department to place NGOs under administration, but only to provide mentoring, support and capacity in terms of finance and governance issues.

The Department offered support in capacity building and the National offices had to provide Service delivery improvement plans.
