Community Safety
[1] What is his and his Department’s position on whether it is acceptable for only one police member per shift to be allocated to police station’s community service centre (CSC) and (b) what is the policy of the South Africa Police Service in this regard?
(a) The Department of Community Safety regularly conducts oversight visits to police stations in the Western Cape. Should there be finding that a Community Service Centre is under-resourced in terms of the number of SAPS members, such concerns are brought to the attention of the Station Commander during the post audit feedback session and a report is also submitted to the Provincial Commissioner.
The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
1. (a) No, it is not acceptable.
[b] There should be a minimum of 2 (two) members in the CSC to mitigate the risk posed.
