Whether his Department has a strategy in place to deal with the scourge of crime in Avian Park, Worcester; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
The Minister and Department have embarked on the following initiatives:
- Several public accountability meetings were held with local role-players and community members.
- Crime awareness campaigns were conducted and the Departments of Education, Social Development, Cultural Affairs and Sport as well as the SAPS were present at these outreach events.
- The Department facilitated a process which enabled the assessment of youth at risk by the Department of Social Development for placement at rehabilitation centres and places of safety.
- Some of the youth have been accepted onto the Chrysalis Academy training programme and at the Northlink College.
- The Department continues to support the effective functioning of the Community Safety Forum in the Worcester area.
