[1] What is the total number of South African Police Service (SAPS) officers who were assigned to the Western Cape flying squad in the (a) 2014/15, (b) 2015/16, (c) 2016/17 and (d) 2017/18 financial years;

[2] whether any SAPS officers assigned to the flying squad have been assigned to other police stations or units in the current financial year; if so, (a) how many officers were reassigned, (b) where was each officer reassigned and (c) in each case, for what period of time were officers reassigned?

Answer Body: 

The South African Police Service informed me as follows:

(1)(a)     2014/15 = 255 (Radio Control inclusive of 10111 and Flying Squad)

     (b)    2015/16 = 241 (Radio Control inclusive of 10111 and Flying Squad)

     (c)    2016/17 = 218 (Flying Squad only)

     (d)    2017/18 = 175 (Flying Squad only)

(2) (a)    5

(b)&(c)   2 x Range Officers till further notice

              1 x Darfur Sudan operational duties till February 2018

              1 x POPs till further notice

              1 x Bellville VIS till further notice
