(1) Whether there is a housing database in the province; if not, why not; if so, (a) what are the relevant details, (b) when last was it updated, (c) where is it accessible, (d) can a copy be made available, (e)(i) what is the number of persons on the housing database and (f) what is the breakdown of these persons per (i) age, (ii) gender and (iii) race;
(2) (a) what are the details of the housing database per municipality and (b) can a copy be made available of each municipality’s housing database;
(3) whether there are any municipalities that do not have a housing database; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer Body: 

[1][a] Yes, the Western Cape Housing Database [WCHDDB] was introduced in 2012.

[b] The WCHDDB, used by all non-metro Municipalities, is updated on a daily basis. The City of Cape Town has its own database, but the data thereon is downloaded to the WCHDDB on a monthly basis.

[c] it is accessible at any municipal office for persons to register or update their information. Communities can also register their need or update their information via the WCG App on a smartphone or the internet.

[d] According the Protection of Personal Information Act [POPIA] it is not permissible.

[e][i] Approximately 586 000.
