[*] Sport and Recreation South Africa mandated provinces to establish Sport Focus Schools in each District as per the Sport Focus Schools programme. As the Emil Weder HS has residential accommodation it qualified to change to a sport focus school.

[iii] What is the Department planning to do with the inactive MOD centres?

The coaches from Hazendal PS have been temporarily transferred to Blossom Street PS whilst the “replacement process” is being finalised.

 Given the shift in approach on Sport Focus Schools from a national perspective (SRSA), the status of Emil Weder HS will revert to that of a MOD Centre as from the 01 April 2017.

There are no NGOs running MOD Centres. However, the department partners with various NGO’s such as the Year Beyond programme for which funding is provided and others for which no funding is provided to assist with the running of some MOD centres.

[3] How many young people are employed at MOD Centres?

During the 2016/17 financial year, 543 individuals were employed as coaches in the MOD Programme.

[4] How many teachers who are full-time employees of the WCED are employed by

 MOD Centre Programme?

There are no full time WCED teachers employed in the MOD Programme.
