Whether his Department has any training in place for the neighbourhood watches in Beaufort West; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Yes, the Department of Community Safety provides Basic Neighbourhood Watch training, Basic Fire Fighting and First Aid (Level 1) training. Since 1 October 2016, the Department of Community Safety is mandated to support accredited Neighbourhood Watch formations in terms of Section 6 [Accreditation and Support of Neighbourhood Watches] of the Western Cape Community Safety Act of 2013.
Neighbourhood Watches wanting to benefit from support and training offered by the Department, must therefore apply for accreditation. To date no application for accreditation has been received from Neighbourhood Watch formations in Beaufort-West.
