- How much did her Department contribute directly towards the traditional Cape Minstrels’ Second New Year celebrations in 2017;
whether there were any other forms of assistance that her Department provided if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
- The Department annually supports the Minstrel Boards with a contribution towards the second New Year Event. For the 16/17 financial year a contribution to the amount of R1 576 018 was disbursed.
The list of Minstrel Boards and the amounts received include:
- Kaapse Klopse Karnival R540 654
- Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association R604 215
- Cape District Minstrels R110 654
- Drakenstein Coon Carnival R320 495
In terms of further assistance, the Department paid an amount of R251 738 to the Department of Health, towards the emergency medical costs for the road march.
