(1) Whether he has ever visited the Recovering Addicts Empowering Lives Safe and Sober Living Farm (RAEL) near Worcester; if so, what are the relevant details;

(2) whether (a) he supports this institution, (b) recommends it to people with addictive problems and (c) supports the RAEL Orange Friday Campaign against drug abuse; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

(3)  patients with what conditions get treated at RAEL?

Answer Body:

[1] No

[2] [a] The institution can only be fully supported once it meets the requirements for registration as an inpatient treatment facility. The facility has been guided through the application and registration process, and feedback was given on the findings of the assessment for registration. We have guiding the facility in terms of the aspects that needs to be addressed in order to register as an inpatient treatment facility. The correct zoning and fire and health clearance is paramount to the registration process and is within the competency of the local government authority, and not DSD.

[b] The department cannot recommend an unregistered treatment facility.

[c] The department cannot recommend campaigns from unregistered facilities.

[3] In their application to register they indicated that they will treat individuals with a substance abuse disorder. It was however found that they also treat persons with dual diagnosis. [e.g. substance abuse and mental health disorders]. It is for this reason that in the feedback on the assessment for registration it was recommended that the facility have a pre-admission screening process as well as a multi professional team employed.
