What steps are being taken to remove the Cederberg municipal councillor, whose name has been furnished to his Department for the purpose of his reply, who has been arrested on sexual charges involving a minor girl?
The Councillor referred to in the Parliamentary Question, is not from Cederberg Municipality, but rather from the West Coast District Municipality. It is accordingly advised that the prerequisite in terms of the Code of Conduct for Councillors needs adherence before any councillor can be removed.
Such processes are yet to commence and that the reason for the Municipality not starting with any processes are due to the fact that the mentioned councillor is still in custody. The effect of this is that documents could not be served at his home address. The Municipality is seeking legal advice on how to serve documents on the councillor and will start proceedings as soon as they have clarity in this regard.
