Community Safety
With respect to the implementation of the SAPS’s Rural Safety Strategy:
- What is the reason for the delay in the full implementation of this
strategy at every rural police station in the Western Cape, (b) by when will the Rural Safety Strategy be implemented at each of the outstanding police stations and (c) what budget has been allocated provincially for the implementation of the Rural Safety Strategy?
The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
(a) Rural Safety is fully implemented at ninety six (96) identified stations in the Western Cape. Only one (1) station is partially implemented, because the land utilized by the stock owners belongs to Government.
(b) The Rural Safety Strategy will be fully implemented at all identified stations by the end of the third quarter of this financial year 2017/2018.
(c) There was no specific budget allocated provincially for the implementation of the Rural Safety Strategy. Any budgetary requirements are addressed within the budget allocation of the relevant stations.
