Answer Body:
  1. Tafelsig Clinic is a City of Cape Town facility and their information can be obtained from the local authority. Lentegeur, including Mitchell's Plain Hospital, is on one erf and as such only receives one account from the municipality. The precinct’s monthly water bill averages monthly R335 030.00

  1. Lentegeur Hospital stopped using the swimming pool and installed non-flush urinals. Water tanks will be installed to catch roof water for usage. The hospital tested, checked and repaired the borehole water supply. Mitchells Plain Hospital has water storage tanks on the premises which stores 170 000 litres of water at any given time. The hospital also plans to install a water recycling plant for the auto claves which could possibly save about 10 000 litres per day.

  1. The laundry is done at the recently upgraded central laundry on the Lentegeur Hospital site. The laundry has highly efficient washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing machines.

  1. The laundry has modern continuous batch washing machines that are designed to use six litres of water per kilogram of linen processed. The old washer-extractor machines that were replaced during the upgrade typically used 20 litres of water per kilogram of linen processed.

  1. The laundry is managed by the Directorate: Engineering and Technical Support and not by the individual hospitals. The Directorate is presently considering an expensive water purification plant so that a significant portion of the waste water can be reused.
