Whether her Department is providing transport to Grade R to Grade 9 learners who are walking from (a) Agterstevlei, (b) Kleinvlei, (c) Brugkraal, (d) Witwater, (e) Heiningvlei and (f) the surrounding communities to Wupperthal; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
9. No, there is currently no WCED approved route in the area. The last application received was in 2005. At the time, the application was not approved since the route would have been shorter than 5km. The Principal was advised to apply for hostel bursaries for the learners.
The learner numbers from the surrounding areas of Wupperthal are as follows: Kleinvlei (7), Agterstevlei (5), Grasvlei (11), Witwater (6) and Heuningvlei (7).
All 36 learners are currently being accommodated in the hostel during the week, but go home on Fridays and return on Sundays.
