(a) How many people in the province have been enrolled in the new solar photovoltaic (SPV) qualification and (b) how much did the Premier’s Council on Skills spend on the implementation of this pilot project?
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism informed that:
[a] The Department is not able to report on the number of learners enrolled in the new solar photovoltaic [SPV] qualification. The Department supported the development of the solar photovoltaic [SPV] qualification, as the absence of a qualification created the risk of a slower and costlier advancement of the photovoltaic economy and uptake. The development of the qualification was supported by feedback from industry and academia.
The Deoartment has been informed that the West Coast College and various firms are currently recruiting learners who will be trained in the qualification and undergo experiential learning at participating firms.
[b] The Premier’s Council on Skills has not spent funding on the pilot project. The Department however spent R1,456,000 on the development, learning material and digitisation of the qualification.
