(1)     What is the status of the intended Washington Drive High School of Colorado High School in Tracy Avenue, Colorado (Weltevreden Valley), Mitchells Plain;

(2)     whether there was a public participation process on building a high school in Woodlands, Mitchells Plain; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

(3)     how many (a) learners and (b) teachers will be at the intended high school;

(4)     whether all the (a) teachers and (b) principals have been appointed; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body: 

[1]     Due to high demand for places in the area, the Western Cape Education Department issued an instruction to the Department of Transport and Public Works to construct a temporary school in Weltevrede, Mitchells Plain.

The school will initially consist of 10 mobile classrooms and other auxiliary facilities.  The first learners are scheduled to be enrolled for the 2023 academic year.  Planning for the permanent high school will commence in the 2023/24 financial year.

[2]     The land is already zoned for education, and although a stakeholder consultation is not required, one was held on 11 August 2022.

[3]     [a]    400 learners: 200 Grade 8s and 200 Grade 9s

[4]     No, the school has not been officially registered as the school has not yet been built.
