With regard to the building of a high school in Woodlands, Mitchells Plain:

(1)     (a) Where will the (i) water and (ii) electricity come from for this school, (b) who will be responsible for these payments and (c) where will the entrance to this school be located;

(2)     whether the community has been consulted on the entrance and exit locations of this school; if so, what are the relevant details;

(3)     whether the building plans have been submitted to the City of Cape Town; if so, what is the status of the plans;

(4)     whether the building plans were published in the local community media for input; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body:

The school will be serviced via the Municipality.

The school will receive Norms and Standards funding as it will be declared a public ordinary school. They will be responsible for the payment of municipal services, as is every other school. A percentage of the Norms and Standards allocation is to be used to pay for Municipal services.  

[c]   The entrance for the mobile school will be on Washington Drive. The details regarding the brick and mortar school will be finalised during the planning phase.

[2]     The entrance/exit for the mobile school was discussed at the stakeholder consultation held on 11 August 2022. The Department has liaised with the City of Cape Town to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations.

[3]     Although submission is not required by legislation or policy, the Building Plans will be submitted to the Local Authority as a courtesy submission.

[4)] Although a stakeholder consultation is not required by legislation or policy, one was held on 11 August 2022.
