Health
In relation to patients seeking medical attention at emergency centres at Western Cape healthcare facilities:
- Of all the patients admitted, how many of these patients’ injuries were trauma-related at every emergency centre in (i) 2017/18, (ii) 2018/19, (iii) 2019/20, (iv) 2020/21 and (v) 2021/22 and (b) what were the top five categories of trauma incidents recorded in (i) 2017/18, (ii) 2018/19, (iii) 2019/20, (iv) 2020/21 and (v) 2021/22?
HECTIS was rolled out recently, and does not cover all facilities, so reasonable estimates are given based on sound methodology.
- A review of Emergency Centre (EC) headcounts from the HECTIS system, which pulls data from 37 ECs, from 1 January 2022 to 13 July 2022 showed approximately 25 % of visits to the EC are due to trauma.
If we estimate that 24.41 % of these headcounts are due to trauma:
- Based on the review of the EC headcounts from the HECTIS system which showed approximately 25 % of visits to the EC are due to trauma, the type of trauma presenting to ECs have remained consistent for a number of years:
