Answer Body:

With respect to her department’s utilisation of the former JJ du Pre le Roux Clinic building in Paarl:

  1. From which date did her department make use of the premises,

The Department of Transport and Public Works (TPW) allocated the building to the Department of Social Development on 10 August 2017.  The Department of Social Development utilised this space to store and distribute disaster relief goods during the Knysna Disaster as well as for the storage and distribution of goods in terms of the Sanitary Dignitary Project. The Department of Social Development plans to utilise the building for office space once certain modifications are made to the building for this purpose. The Department of Transport and Public Works has registered a project to address these requirements, subject to the availability of funds.

(b) what informed her department’s decision not to lease the premises after March 2022,

The Department of Transport and Public Works is the owner of the premises and therefore the Department of Social Development does not need to lease the property as per the relevant regulatory frameworks.

(c) for what needs has her department registered to use the building

The Department of Social Development (DSD) registered a need for the premises of the former JJ du Preez le Roux Clinic to be earmarked for utilization as accommodation space.

and (d) what alternative plans have been put in place as a result of her department not    being able to use the premises?

Currently the Department of Transport and Public Works has provided the Old Rembrandt Building as office accommodation for the Department of Social Development’s Drakenstein Service Delivery Area.
