With regard to his Department’s funding allocation to procure bicycles:

  1. How much has been spent on the procurement of bicycles, (b) how many bicycles have been procured in (i) 2019, (ii) 2020, (iii) 2021 and (iv) 2022 to date, (c) what is the allocation for these bicycles and (d)(i) where in the province have they been sent, (ii) to whom were they sent and (iii) for what purpose?

  1. R409 055
  2. (i) 2019: nil

(ii) 2020: nil

(iii) 2021: nil

(iv) 2022: 100 bicycles were procured by DTPW, with an actual cost of R409 055 claimed back from the DotP via an inter-departmental claim-back arrangement.

 

  1. R400 000 with an actual spent of R409 055.
  2. (i) The 100 bicycles were distributed along the West Coast.

(ii) The 100 bicycles were donated to Neighbourhood Watch groups (NHWs) located in various West Coast communities (see annexure A).

(iii) The purpose of the donation was to increase the NHWs’ mobility in responding timeously to crime alerts and improve visibility in the community and as such, improve the effectiveness of the NHWs and make people feel safer.
