Premier
(a)(i) and (ii) The only matter relating to reviews of the Public Protector or other Chapter 9 and 10 institutions and involving Minister Bredell is the review of the Public Protector’s findings and report in respect of the Oudtshoorn municipality. The matter was instituted by the Premier and Minister Bredell as co-applicants and whilst initially opposed by the Public Protector, the matter has subsequently become unopposed (the Public Protector having withdrawn its opposition) and will now be set down for hearing on the unopposed roll of the Western Cape High Court in 2023.
(b) (i) The costs associated with this application are those of senior and junior counsel briefed and their related attendances to date. The total fees for the 2020/21 financial year were R27 600, for the 2021/22 financial year R89 470,04 and for the 2022/23 financial year R52 497,50.
(ii) The Public Protector’s findings and report were taken on review based on legal advice as to the lawfulness and rationality thereof.
