Public hearings on the impact of the new immigration regulations

Recent media reports suggest that the implementation of new immigration regulations (as contained in the Immigration Act No. 13 of 2002) is not only having a detrimental effect on key industries contributing to the economy, but also disrupting the lives of people. The Western Cape Provincial Parliament is considering the immigration regulations in order to decide whether to make recommendations to the National Assembly in terms of section 104(5) of the Constitution.

 To this end, the committee mandated to oversee economic development, will consider the impact of these new regulations on the lives of the people of the Western Cape at public hearings scheduled for 25 and 26 September 2014 from 08h30 – 20h30 in the Chamber on the 6th Floor, Provincial Legislature Building, 7 Wale Street, Cape Town. The committee will receive inputs from invited stakeholders at these hearings, which will be open to the public.

 Interested persons and organisations are requested to submit written submissions on the impact the new regulations have had or are expected to have on them.
