Agriculture
With reference to his Department’s funding of service providers from the start of the sixth administration to date:
- (a) What are the details of all the service providers that have been funded in (i) 2019, (ii) 2020, (iii) 2021, (iv) 2022 and (v) 2023 to date and (b) what was the purpose of each funding;
- whether his Department awarded funding of R10 million about 18 months ago to a certain company, whose name has been furnished to his Department for the purpose of his reply; if not, why not; if so, (a) what was the purpose of th[is funding and (b) from which programme did the money come;
- whether a commodity representative can also become a competitor in the market of plant material, given that the company in (2) is a service provider; if so, what are the relevant details?
THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE:
- Since the start of the sixth administration no donation was made to Ukraine. The reason being that it is not the policy nor practice of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture to make donations to foreign states.
(2) (a) Neither the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, nor any of its entities, has instituted a project called the Food Garden Project for Ukraine. The Department is also not aware whether any of the entities utilised by the Department to assist with the rollout of food gardens have a project with that title.
(b) No funds were allocated to a project of this nature.
