- Whether his Department supports school sport in any way; if not, why not; if so, (a) how much has his Department spent on school sport from the start of the sixth administration to date and (b) what are the details of the (i) sporting codes supported and (ii) support provided;
- (a) what are the current challenges that hamper school sport, especially at schools in previously disadvantaged communities, and (b) what intervention measures are in place to address these challenges;
- whether reports of alleged discrimination at the Laerskool Sedgefield against learners and teachers from the Sedgefield Primary School who are left out of athletics event has been bought to his attention; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) how is his Department dealing with the matter?

My Department has informed me of the following:

- The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has no allocated budget for school sport, as school sport is the competency of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

- No. WCED district officials visited the two schools. Both schools deny the allegations of discrimination.
Both schools participated in the 2023 Regional Athletics competition that took place in Plettenberg Bay.
- There are a few administrative issues that need to be addressed between the two schools, such as the financing of the events, and the selection of “officials” for each event. The two principals have committed to address these in their upcoming engagement.
