Given the spike in extortion in the townships and especially against local businesses:
(a) What is the number of extortion related attacks on (i) government projects; (ii) local businesses and (iii) business people that have been reported in (i) 2019, (ii) 2020, (iii) 2021, (iv) 2022 and (v) 2023 to date, (c) what are the details per township in the Cape Flats and (c) what intervention measures has his Department and provincial government put in place extortion cases in the province and (ii) what provisions are made in the Safety Plan to respond and eliminate this scourge?
(a)(i) I can only answer with respect to the Departments for which I am the executive Authority. I am informed that neither the Department of Economic Development and Tourism nor the Provincial Treasury are aware of extortion related attacks on projects for which they are responsible.
