Answer Body:

The reply of the South African Police Service (SAPS):

3.        (a)   Community safety is not compromised by the closure of the satellite station, as all policing functions are maintained by personnel from the main station.

           (b)   Apart from the optimisation of integrated operations and operational deployments, partnership policing and community policing are strengthened through the practise of the Community in Blue initiative and the implementation of the Safer City concept.

The intended re-opening of a new satellite station in Brown’s Farm will further enhance policing efforts.

Nyanga SAPS has an established Community Policing Forum; the current acting chairperson Mr Michael Bangani is a representative from Brown’s Farm (sector 3 and 4) who represents the Community Policing Sub Forums.

           (c)   The Staffing level of Nyanga as a priority station is constantly monitored to ensure optimal resourcing at all times. In addition to existing resources, an additional 89 Constables will be included from the intake of Entry Level Constables (ELC) during the 2022/2023 financial year.
