  1. What (a) is the number and (b) are the details of the security contracts that his Department awarded in (i) Delft and (ii) the province at large and (c)(i) are the details of service providers, (ii) are details of directors of the companies to whom WCED-related security contracts have been awarded in Delft and the province;
  1. whether he is aware and will investigate allegations that his Department has awarded contracts to extortionists in Delft; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body: 

My department has informed me of the following:

  1. (a) Zero. The Department does not award security contracts directly to security companies. School Governing Bodies (SGBs) are responsible for the appointment of security companies. The Department does provide a subsidy to identified schools for security, however the appointment of the contractor and the payment thereof is managed by the SGB.

(b) & (c) Not applicable.

  1. As noted above, the Department did not award any contracts to security companies in Delft.

 

If the Member has information relating to a contract awarded by an SGB or service provider in Delft that he is concerned about, he should provide these details in writing so that we can investigate.
