Question Number:
20
Question Body:

In cases where learners reside 15 km away from the school allocated by the Department and where there are not enough learners who require Department-sponsored learner transport and where parents cannot afford private learner transport:

What mechanisms are available from his Department to assist such learners?

Answer Body:

My department has informed me of the following:

The affected school can apply for a transport subsidy.

The approval of learner transport, or learner transport subsidies, is dependent on a variety of factors (for example, whether the school is in a rural metropolitan area) and the specific circumstances of the application.

The Department would need to receive the specifics of the case being alluded to in order to respond in detail, so I urge the member to provide  this information to the Department.
