- How does his Department determine at which intersections to install traffic lights;
- whether a study has been conducted to determine which intersections are dangerous and require the installation of traffic lights; if so, what are the relevant details?
- (1) The Department follows and adheres to the warrants for the installation of traffic signals as prescribed in the national South African Road Traffic Signs Manual, Volume 3, Chapter 2, to determine at which intersections to install traffic lights.
(2) Road safety assessments are conducted on every periodic maintenance and capital infrastructure project. The safety of intersections is reviewed during these assessments, and where required the intersection is considered for upgrades or enhancements.
