Question Number:

Question Body:

Whether his Department has plans to undertake a study to determine which single carriageways can be changed to dual carriageways; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body:
  1. No. A specific study to determine which provincial roads can be dualled is not required. On every periodic maintenance and capital infrastructure project the Department follows and adheres to specific design standards to establish if single carriageway roads qualify for dualling. These are implemented where the budget allows for it. Due to budget constraints, the preservation of the existing assets currently takes priority over any dualling backlog.
