- What support will her Department be giving to SMMEs to mitigate the effect of load-shedding?
The Department is in the process of investigating the viability of supporting SMMEs, located in trading hubs in mainly township areas, by providing alternative energy solutions, so that they may continue to operate during loadshedding. As part of the market analysis, the Department will conduct site visits to twelve trading hubs identified as part of this process. The support will enable SMMEs operating at the trading hubs to continue operations during load shedding.
In addition, the department is investigating a support system to assist SMMEs to understand the dynamics of the tax-incentives available for (mainly) solar installations and developing guides for SMMEs on how to access these incentives as well as pertinent information on Solar PV and green financing options.
- What is the cost breakdown of the interventions?
The Department allocated a budget of R20,6 million in the 2023/24 financial year toward providing SMMEs with alternative energy solutions.
- How many SMMEs will be supported?
The Department envisages supporting 131 SMMEs located at various trading hubs around the Western Cape and supporting a far wider range of SMMEs with information on Solar PV incentives to help make business decisions.
