  1. How many cases of (i) corruption and (ii) bribery have been reported at traffic and licensing centres, (b) what steps have been taken against the accused individuals and (c) what measures have been put in place to ensure that no corruption and bribery at these centres take place in future?
Answer Body: 
  1. Since 2018, 43 cases of fraud and corruption were reported to the South

African Police Service (SAPS).

  1. The Department assisted the various units of the SAPS with the

investigations which led to the arrest of 42 officials.  7 convictions have been secured in a court of law with sentences of between 3 and 5 years of imprisonment, while the remaining 38 cases are still being investigated.

  1. To combat the incidences of fraud and corruption the Department has

centralised certain critical transactions to be captured by the Department on provision of the appropriate documentary proof.  It also arranged for anti-fraud and corruption posters with contact information to report incidences to be displayed in all service centres.
