Since the deployment of the first LEAP officers in 2020:
How many firearms have been confiscated by LEAP officers, (b) how many arrests have LEAP officers participated in and (c) what is the approximate total value of the narcotics confiscated by LEAP officers?
THE MINISTER OF POLICE OVERSIGHT AND COMMUNITY SAFETY TO REPLY:
15. (a) Since inception of LEAP 368 firearms confiscated/recovered as at 14 May 2023.
(b) Since Inception 16 780 arrests as at 14 May 2023.
(c) Please be advised that the monetary value of the drugs has not been reported.
Since inception all reporting varied in terms of how drugs and liquor were represented. In 2022 categories were introduced, see below results.
Since Jan 2022 until 14 May 2023 the following approximate amount were confiscated:
- 11 877 packets tik
- 1 210 straws
- 472.42g of tik
- 34 tik lollies and 3 tik needles
- 16 045 Mandrax tablets
- 12 292.6L of Liquor and 458 bottles of various alcohol
