With regard to the possibility of freezing posts:
How many vacant posts would have to be frozen due to the public sector wage increases agreed to by the National Treasury, should no additional funding be received from the National Treasury, (b) what are the different kinds of posts that have been frozen, (c) how will this affect her Department’s ability to deliver healthcare to residents and (d) how much money is the Department receiving from the Provincial Treasury to cover the anticipated shortfall?
- Should National Treasury not allocate additional funding to compensate for the increased public wage sector agreement, the department would have to consider freezing posts. This would equate to approximately 2 362 to afford the higher salaries.
This estimation is based on the median salary of R502,000, which was derived by calculating a weighted average salary cost across all the Departments various salary levels.
- This would exacerbate the service pressures already being experienced within the departments various facilities which will negatively impact on service delivery.
The Department and Provincial Treasury are still awaiting guidance in terms of the funding of the published wage increases, at which point they will then engage to discuss any mitigating actions required.
