 (c) (i) The filled and vacancy rate within the Chief Directorate Traffic Management as recorded, includes all operational uniform wearing personal within the Directorates Traffic Training and Development and Traffic Law Enforcement.  Traffic Law Enforcement historically has an annual exodus of skilled and experienced Provincial Inspectors, that is recruited by Local Authority Traffic Services within the province and beyond, due to higher salary packages offers.

Approval was granted to the Directorate Traffic Law Enforcement in 2022, to increase the staff establishment from 481 to 601 Provincial Inspectors to increase our operational staff compliment across the province.  The increase in the establishment enabled the training of 87 trainee traffic officers who obtained their one-year Further Education Training Certificate. Plans are currently underway to recruit an additional 167 trainee traffic officers, to undergo the 12-month training programme that will commence as from January 2024.
