Police Oversight and Community Safety
With regard to the 10-point crime-fighting plan outlined by Minister Bheki Cele during his speech on 23 May 2023:
How will this plan be implemented in the province specifically, (b) what additional support will be given to provincial law enforcement agencies by the SAPS over the next 12 months and (c) what additional allocations, if any, of (i) vehicles, (ii) personnel and (iii) miscellaneous resources are planned for the province in the next 12 months?
The reply of the South African Police Service (SAPS):
28. | (a) | The Minister’s 10-point crime-fighting plan has been incorporated in the National Policing Strategy for implementation by key business units. Those focus areas that are the reporting responsibility of the Provincial Commissioner Western Cape, have been integrated into business unit plans for implementation in the Province, through which the relevant deliverables will be operationalised, coordinated and monitored.
| |
| (b) | SAPS Western Cape acknowledges the significance of integration and partnership, therefore the multi-disciplinary approach that has been employed by the Province will continue and will involve all sectors of society, including collaboration with provincial law enforcement agencies.
| |
| (c) | (i) | A total of 286 vehicles on the 2023/2024 procurement plan.
|
|
| (ii) | The Project 10 000 Recruitment process will run for three consecutive years. The final provincial allocation for the 2023/2024 financial year is subject to the finalisation of the SAPS budget distribution.
