With regard to the Western Cape Education Department’s recently launched Back on Track Programme:
How many learners have attended extra classes as part of this programme to date and (b) how many teachers have attended training sessions as part of this programme to date?
Answer Body:
My department has informed me of the following:
- As of 10 June 2023, approximately 310 000 learners across Grades 1-3 have been beneficiaries of the programme.
Over the 3 sessions so far in Term 2, on average, 15 702 learners have participated in the targeted learning programme for learners in Grades 4, 7, 8, 10 and 12.
(b) As of 10 June 2023, 2 652 Foundation Phase teachers and 2 984 teachers across Grades 4, 7, 8, 10 and 12 have attended training sessions.
