On 10 May 2022 the Equal Education Law Centre presented information to the Standing Committee on Education regarding challenges related to learner admissions in the Western Cape. During this session, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) committed to providing updates to the Standing Committee on Education on the progress of the online appeal process pilot project by the end of the last quarter of 2022:

(1)     What is the comprehensive update on the pilot project;

(2)       whether the pilot project has been initiated; if not, (a) why not and (b) what is the reason for the delay; if so, what is the current status?

Answer Body:

2.       (1)     The pilot project is currently in the design phase. We are currently awaiting the completion of the admissions system data migration, so that work on the appeals system can continue. The implementation of an online appeal system is dependent on the online admissions system. The Ministry remains in consultation with the Western Cape Education Department and the Department of the Premier in this regard.

 (2)    The project has been initiated and is currently in the design phase. Once the data migration is completed, we will be able to proceed with the design and testing of the appeal system.
