Standing Committee oversight in the West Coast

MPP, Rodney Lentit, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, together with the members of the committee, will conduct an oversight visit to nature reserves in the West Coast region to discuss pertinent biodiversity and conservation issues that have an impact on economic growth and tourism in the region. One of the desired outcomes of this visit is to highlight and showcase the facilities and outdoor activities that CapeNature has to offer that can be enjoyed by tourists and the people of the Western Cape.

In addition, several briefing sessions with Cape Nature and the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning will be held on Tuesday, 10 February 2015, at the Lamberts Bay Bird Island.

Details are as follows:

11:00     Discussion of Cape Nature’s performance for the period (April-December 2014)

12:30     Discussion on biodiversity and conservation issues

14:30     Discussion on the economic impact of tourism in the West Coast

15:00     Discussion with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning on its key initiatives relating to biodiversity issues and coastal management
