Official Opening and Premier's Opening Address held in Cape Town
The official opening ceremony of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) took place this morning. Premier Alan Winde delivered his 2024 Opening Address (POA) during the sitting.
In his Opening Address, Premier Winde, outlined the government’s policy and direction for the term ahead and also identified specific goals and targets. “I call on each one of us here in this legislature, and in this government, to make sure that over the next term we demonstrate to our residents why they matter and how, through our work, we build this province for them and for our future,” he said.
After the adjournment, Speaker Daylin Mitchell, who presided over the proceedings, said: “It was a privilege to host the first official opening of the Seventh Parliament of the Western Cape today. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s sitting during which political parties will have the opportunity to debate the Premier’s Opening Address, after which the Premier will respond to the debate.”
