(2) The Department of Justice and Constitution Development manages criminal cases that are before the courts. The Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety, in line with its oversight mandate over the South African Police Service (SAPS), monitors a sample of withdrawn cases based on identified crime categories and compiles reports with recommendations. These reports are sent to the office of the SAPS Provincial Commissioner for remedial actions. The reports are not available to the public. A summary of these reports is included in the Policing Needs and Priorities report and the Minister and Members of Executive Council (MINMEC) report.
